30 Stories for 30 Years: Chapter 20- Hunger Doesn’t Take A Vacation

Last Friday, PPAGer Patti McGuire participated in the Fifth Annual “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Vacation” along with various community volunteers, from State Farm Insurance agents, members of Angeles Foundation to local elected officials, including Hillside Council President Andrea Hyatt and Dahlia McCoy E. Vertreese President of the Hillside Board of Education.  Close to 1200 sandwiches were prepared.

This month-long sandwich drive was launched by state Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Union), who partnered with the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless and St. Joseph’s Social Service Center for the drive.  Quijano founded the food drive to help low-income children and families during the summer months when free or reduced-priced school lunches aren’t available.
This Wednesday, August 30 is the last day of the drive, and sandwiches will be distributed from 10am to noon.
