30 Stories For 30 Years: Chapter 22– Hitting the Books… and the Slopes

Shane Smith, son of PPAGer and active snowboarder David Smith and wife Diana, spent the last several winter seasons as a hands-on instructor on the slopes of the Catskills with the Adaptive Sports Foundation on Windham Mountain. The ASF promotes physical activity for children and adults living with disabilities by offering winter programs in recreational skiing and snowboarding. The ASF works with children, adults, and wounded warriors, supports a competitive race team for athletes with both physical and cognitive challenges, as well as a 12-week residential competition program for Paralympic-eligible athletes.
This fall, Shane begins his college career at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he will no doubt, in addition to his studies, continue this work either in Colorado or when he returns for winter break back in Windham, New York.  To make a gift to the ASF, please click here.
