30 Stories for 30 Years: Chapter 10- Citizen of the World

Morgan Payne, daughter of PPAGer Maggie Payne, had the opportunity to represent Shenandoah University this past spring break as a part of the Global Citizenship Project trip to South Africa. She swam with penguins, hiked Table Mountain, but Morgan was most impacted by her visit to the townships of Langa and Khayelitsha.

In the townships, she met with a social activist named Mandla. His passion for work and helping others was inspiring and this interaction was a stand-out moment for Morgan, especially since it’s her ambition to become a physician one day, travel to underserved communities and give medical care. She was inspired to declare a double major upon her return, adding Public Health to her previous Biology/Pre-Med major. To learn more about the Global Citizenship project, click here.
